About William E. Martinov

Over 35 years of higher education experience inclusive of senior administrative leadership, teaching, coaching, fund raising and student recruitment that has embraced both diversity and campus-wide collaboration with the primary goal of enhancing personalized student success. After leading LIU Athletics to unprecedented success within the Northeast Conference and Division I from 2019-2023, promoted to chief of alumni engagement and athletics advancement in August 2023. The Sharks won back-to-back Commissioner’s Cups as the top-performing athletic program in the Northeast Conference (2020-21, 2021-22)- an LIU first- and always finished in the top two in the past four years. Academically, the department won its first-ever NEC Institutional Academic Award in 2020. The Sharks’ student-athletes annually have finished in the top three in GPA in the conference. Fifteen conference championships were achieved from 2019-23. Six league titles have been achieved in 2022-23 alone: men’s golf, women’s ice hockey, softball, women’s tennis, men’s volleyball and women’s water polo while equestrian had a top four finish at nationals. LIU also produced an NCAA fencing national champion, cheer & dance programs won Game Day Spirit national titles in back-to-back years from 2022-23 and 2023-24, and multiple student-athletes were deemed All-American. Negotiated multiple six-figure game guarantees and corporate partnership deals. Initiator of new student-centered services and programs including the Mercy College PACT mentoring program, student-alumni career development program (COACH), athletic academic advisory board, faculty liaison program, and the student-athlete advisory committee. A true believer of personal growth through athletics, having established over 13 new NCAA varsity sports over my career. Friend and fund raiser of two separate University capital campaigns each in excess of $250 million which involved the creation, renovation and service to various advising boards, affinity groups and alumni at large. Directly or collaboratively involved in securing multiple six, five- and four-figure gifts designed to support athletic facilities, student scholarships and/or operational needs. Leadership focused career established on doctoral studies, continuous research, application and assessment designed to develop people and to ascend organizations to greater levels of performance and achievement.
