About William Gregory

With over 20 years of experience working with children and adults with extensive support needs, I am committed to advocating for the rights of students and families. My career began as a direct care staff member. Eventually, I moved into supervisory positions at the Austin State Supported Living Center, where I managed residential and vocational programs and led a team of 50 plus. This role gave me extensive knowledge in behavior therapy, positive reinforcement, staff development, and de-escalation techniques. After obtaining my teaching certification, I taught self-contained functional academics at Caraway and Canyon Creek Elementary schools in Round Rock ISD for three years. Later, I joined the STAAR Alternate 2 assessment team at the Texas Education Agency (TEA), where I provided consultative services and technical assistance for test development and administration for students with significant cognitive disabilities. At 44, I joined the Austin Police Department Academy, but due to injury, I transitioned back into education, teaching high school functional academics. I worked closely with families and staff to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) based on students' transition goals. In August 2022, I earned my Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and am currently a doctoral candidate. I now work as an education specialist V at TEA, working with non-district schools. Additionally, I hold a part-time role as a Student Conduct Officer at Franklin Pierce University, collaborating with various campus departments to ensure a safe and supportive student environment.
