About William Hatton

I am a UK-born, Bali-based travel blogger, online entrepreneur, and published author. As well as founding The Broke Backpacker - a blog specialising in budget backpacking - I also own several other online companies in the adventure tourism and travel industries. It all started with a passion for travel, and that passion has been the key to my greatest successes. I developed a penchant for raw and offbeat travel - the style of travel that only budget backpacking can provide. When I started, I travelled near-broke and near-everywhere, hitchhiking, sleeping rough, and making money on the road wherever and however I could. The Broke Backpacker - my blog - was simply a way to share those stories with people. In time, it became one of the leading travel blogs on the internet backed by a huge team of driven (and wonderfully diverse) traveller-types. The lessons I learnt on my 10-years-plus on the road are what allowed me to carve my role in the online entrepreneurial space. I took the, admittedly, dynamite successes of The Broke Backpacker and applied them into other dream projects: Ditch Your Desk: A passion project side-blog dedicated to inspiring others to design their own life and follow their dreams of working online, location-independently, and without the chains of the dreary office existence. Tribal Hostel: My recently completed hostel in Bali. Building my own hostel has always been a dream of mine - a place for every kind of traveller where everyone can find their tribe. But this is only a sliver of the story! Basically, if it has you ditching your desk, being the architect of your own life, and travelling the world sincerely and connecting with all the irreverent majesty that it offers, I'm involved in it. And if it has you braving some epic mountains and devastating landscapes, I'll be there - boots, backpack, bells, and all.
