An extensive career in investigation and enforcement under various regulations. Initiated as a Police Constable with a municipal department within which I eventually specialized in forensics. This required the processing of crime scenes from basic break and enters and robberies, up to various levels of assaults and homicides. I obtained the knowledge/training regarding scene preservation, evidence collection/continuity, ultimately leading to court presentation/testimony. Further developed enforcement skills with a career change to the fire service within a municipal fire department. Code enforcement, fire scene investigations and public education regarding life safety as it pertains to fire safety was the core of my responsibilities. Following my tenure with the municipality, the fire service path continued as a Fire Investigator with the Office of the Fire Marshal. As a Fire Investigator, the previous forensic career within the police provided a solid foundation, as the process was essentially the same, as it pertains to warrants, scene preservation, evidence collection, continuity ETC; After 12 years in investigations, a further change in my career path within the Office of the Fire Marshal occurred and has returned my original Fire Service path back to Fire Code enforcement, as a Program Specialist. In this position I am focused primarily on code interpretation, assisting fire departments with how they enforce the fire code and interpret the Fire Protection and Prevention Act. It has provided a high level view on the various challenges facing the fire service across Ontario. Everyday I continue to learn about various strategies on how fire services can stick-handle day to day life safety issues in their communities. Most recently I've returned to the Fire Investigation Section as a Manager of a team of Fire Investigators.
