About William Lucas

I have over 15 years of experience in software development with the majority as a Senior Embedded Systems Developer. Most recently I worked as a Developer with Navy Federal Credit Union, a leading provider of financial services to the military community. I led enterprise software development projects, focusing on feature improvement and expanding functionality with NFCU's Government Shutdown Loan Program. I have a proven track record in developing and improving COBOL and Java applications, designing and developing a developer setup program, and integrating the Real Time Payments Network with NFCU. I also mentor multiple developers each year, streamlining onboarding and enhancing project adaptability. In addition, I have grown my skillset in data collection, cleaning, analysis, and visualization with Python and R, and deployed and developed with Microsoft Azure DevOps following a regular Scrum development approach. I previously worked as a Software Director for Current where I managed a team of 5 to develop a cross platform solution for device controls. This included Phone Applications, REST services, Edge Devices, End Devices and Remote controls. Here I had the opportunity to design a proprietary RF Communication Protocol and build the groundwork for data collection with new products. Additionally, this was a great chance to expand my focus on User Experience from QMotion and refine my product development approach in an Agile environment I managed. Process improvement and optimization in systems and applications is where I thrive. Finding the bottleneck and diagnosing the elusive issue is fun and keeps me engaged. It is why I have expanded my skillset to Data Science and Analysis. Having more tools to analyze a current problem or better design new solution makes for better products. Data brings me back to my studies in AI and Machine Learning where I would like to get my career.
