Registered Professional Engineer specializing in HEC-RAS flood modeling and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) customized to flood modeling applications. HEC-RAS modeling experience includes traditional steady-flow modeling as well as 2-dimensional unsteady-flow modeling using LiDAR DEMs available for the New England region. After relocating to the City of Newburyport, MA in August 2015 I chose to set up a HEC-RAS 2-D unsteady-flow hydraulic model of the tidally-influenced Little River in Newburyport and Newbury. The model may be used to investigate flood-related issues associated with changes that may be made to the undersized and collapsing culverts at Parker Street associated with flooding in Newburyport's industrial park. I have prepared a fully-narrated Powerpoint presentation to demonstrate the capabilities of HEC-RAS 2-D unsteady-flow flood modeling using the Little River as a case study. The model may be used to evaluate flood impacts associated with present conditions a well as with any proposed changes in: culvert sizes, bridge openings, and roadbank elevations. 2-dimensional flood modeling is particularly useful in areas with complex flow patterns such as with tidally-influenced rivers and is ideally suited in evaluating the flood impacts from sea level rise and climate change.
