About William Smyack

William (he/him) is currently earning his doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Palo Alto University and inpatient psychiatric case manager/utilization management at Fremont Hospital. Currently, he is an extern at Medical Hill Healthcare serving three neurobehavioral units. He has previously provided services at Kaiser Permanente NorCal, Alta Mira Recovery Programs, and the Sexual and Gender Identities Clinic (SGIC) of the Gronowski Center in Palo Alto, CA. His background includes community-focused work as a Guardian ad Litem and a research assistantship in Orlando, FL for an NIH clinical trial regarding opioid use disorder and rapid treatment initiation. Since relocating to the Bay Area, William has gained experience in crisis residential care and both outpatient and inpatient mental health settings. His research interests center on serious mental illness treatment settings, skills interventions for inpatient mental health care, acute care program evaluation, and contributors to burnout and safety among inpatient staff.
