About William Tan

As a strategist, I believe in simple and creative strategy. Good strategy almost always looks simple and obvious and does not take a thick deck of Power Point slides to explain. It does not pop out of some "strategic management" tool, matrix, chart, triangle, or fill-in-the-blanks scheme. Instead, a talented strategist identifies the one or two critical issues in the situation, what are the focuses, then concentrates action and resources on them. My career has been an exciting journey across various functions and industries. The functions are Data Analysis, Customer Research, Brand Management, Manufacturing, Management Consulting, and Strategy Management. While the industries are Consumer Goods (Orang Tua Group), Consulting (Arghajata Consulting), Retail Grocery (Super Indo), and Banking (OCBC NISP). The real and PRACTICAL experience in VARIOUS functions and industries makes me different to most professionals in Strategy Management. • The broad experience gives me a wide knowledge base and multiple perspectives which are crucial in designing a comprehensive strategy. I’m not limited to certain perspectives and do not have functional bias. • The real and practical experience enables me to design a relevant and realistic strategy. Without practical experience of the designer, a strategy is often just a wishful thinking in a thick deck of Power Point slides that is neither suitable nor implementable for an organization. My role as strategist requires me to cover wide range of works, from conceptual works in planning to hands-on practical work in implementations. I worked closely with C-level executives as internal consultant and reliable advisor, yet also enjoy working with line managers and staffs.
