Background
About Willy Thoen
When one door closes, another one opens.” My name is Willy, and although my door as a SSgt with the United States Air Force has closed, a tremendous door has opened. I am currently a senior in the University of Minnesota’s Nutrition Sciences Didactic Program in Dietetics. I was drawn to nutrition sciences after I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes while serving on a security duty in Bagram, Afghanistan. With an expected graduation of spring 2017, I am currently pursuing an accredited dietetic internship with an emphasis on medical nutrition therapy. What make’s me successful is my drive for knowledge. I’ve maintained a marketable GPA and am an engaged and active learner. Coupled with my military service, my previous experience of working in a variety of team settings, and being among diverse audiences, I believe I will continue this success in my path to become a registered dietitian.
