Win Cowgill was a Professor and area fruit agent at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey from 1978-2016. He was awarded Professor Emeritus. A graduate of Delaware Valley University (‘74) and Rutgers, the State University (77). Cowgill has published over 500 articles and refereed journal articles. He serves on the editorial advisory board of American and Western Fruit Grower magazine and is the editor of Horticultural News, and associate editor of Massachusetts Fruit Notes. He has conducted over 225 applied research and demonstration trials through out NJ, MA, and PA Cowgill's applied research and extension efforts in conjunction with NC140 rootstock research has guided a large expansion of the commercial tree fruit industry in Northern NJ. Over acres of new high density apple plantings have been established in Northern Jersey. •Since 1992 over 99% of the new apple trees planted in NJ have been on size controlling (dwarfing) rootstocks (according to the NJ fruit tree surveys conducted by USDA-NASS)
