Wolfhart (Wolf) currently holds a position as Lead Mining Specialist at the World Bank's Energy and Extractives (EEX) Global Practice. His current focus is on climate-smart mining, re-mining and re-processing, coal transition and decarbonization, land remediation, repurposing, and spatial optimization in the context of former mining and industrial sites. Current professional highlights are managing the World Bank's Climate-Smart Mining initiative and contributing to large scale coal transition programs under the World Bank's "just coal transition" program In his previous role Wolf operated out of Bangkok, covering the East Asia Pacific (EAP) region as coordinator of the environmental due diligence services ("safeguards") the World Bank provides to Clients together with its investment project financing. Within this role he contributed to the World Bank's production and roll-out of the new Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) and has been deeply engaged in operationalizing the ESF with staff and Client training, corporate systems design and practical implementation planning, especially regarding risk assessment and management. Activities further in the past include a posting in Nairobi (Kenya) as Advisor on Fragility, Conflict and Violence (FVC), being responsible for environmental and social policy compliance in the Bank’s operations in its most difficult and complex Client countries. From 2006 to 2013 Wolf worked for the Europe and Central Asia Region as senior specialist for environment and geosciences, specializing in safeguards management in large, complex and high risk projects. In his life before the World Bank Wolf held senior positions in various engineering and geotechnical consulting firms, providing environmental and engineering geological services in pollution management,(underground) construction, geo-hazard management and mining. Wolf has a Masters Degree in Geology and a PhD in Environmental Geosciences.
