About Wouter Kersten

My current line of work mostly has to do with what I call 'scaling and scale conscious design'. In other words developing policies, approaches, communities in such a way that their impact is scalable. Amongst other this implies that choices need to be made, that allow for a diversity of (future) needs to be possible to serve, and timely involvement of stakeholders that become more important (read: essential) later. All this as opposed to tjhe mor ecommon practice of deep diving and optimising for a particular context and then hitting walls and being locked in when trying to scale. The mindset and modes of thinking that allow for a more adaptive way of working and developing stem amongst others from a PhD in industrial design engineering (TU Delft), and 20 years of working in innovation, creativity, nurturing and applying 21st century skills (primarily curiosity). Thematically my main domain is sustainable development; the above mode of thinking can be applied to all possible topics. Motto: Do not be too proud to learn from others, and at the same time not too naive to simply copy from them.
