Background
About Wyatt Strohm
I am a recent Sociology graduate of Whitworth University. My background and experience demonstrates my teaching skills, my mastery of the English language, and the love and patience for working with children that will enable our mutual success. In short, I believe that my life habits, life skills, and life experiences uniquely qualify me for your careful consideration. I am most interested in teaching elementary-level students at the beginning to intermediate level, but I am open and capable of teaching students at all levels. A successful teacher must be able to fully immerse students in the English language. I am able to simply and effectively communicate basic aspects of language by presenting students with a caring and engaging real-world atmosphere that encourages them to learn how the language is used in daily interaction. I will seek to foster a desire to learn and explore the language not only inside the classroom, but independently outside the classroom as well. I am a compassionate and empathetic teacher, sensitive to the unique needs of students. In addition to my education in sociology, behavioral management, and cultural anthropology, I have extensive experience in leading, counseling, and building relationships with young people. Over the past eight years, I worked on student teams organizing and leading summer camps for children in various socioeconomic conditions in rural Washington, in New York City, and in Mexico. I have a passion for experiencing new cultures, I am technologically proficient, and I will use the all the resources available to strengthen and enrich my classroom. My time at Whitworth University, especially as a teaching assistant, has strengthened my passion for teaching and my desire to become a world citizen. Finally, my work in the Be Great! program at the Spokane Boys and Girls Club honed my behavioral management skills and taught me how to effectively work collectively and one-on-one with students to set meaningful goals.
