About Xavier Capaldi

I have nearly 10 years of experimental lab experience studying topics ranging from heart development and DNA sequencing to coffee roasting and knot formation. It started during my bachelor in physics and continued in my masters as a natural progression. During that time I became an expert in microfabrication and published several papers in scientific journals. I also devoted a lot of time developing software to aid in the acquisition or analysis of experimental data. When working on those software projects I felt a deep satisfaction that transcended the actual cutting-edge research. After I started an internship at Optable, I immediately recognized that the satisfaction I felt was because development is a great fit for me. I love building up from small discrete components to create a final product that works fast and feels good. I also like to find and learn information (a skill that is equally important in research and software development). My experience writing technical papers and documentation can be applied directly to code documentation. It felt natural to transition into a full-time role as a software developer where I can be passionate about my work every day. My specialties include quickly learning new skills and programming languages, problem solving, organization and teamwork. I have real work experience in Go, Python, Postgresql, Google BigQuery and Git/GitHub. I have some experience and am working on improving in Javascript, Typescript, HTML, CSS, React, C, C++ and Elisp. I am still quickly acquiring new skills, languages and principles that I can apply in my work or for other projects.
