About Xavier Glaude

Hello!I am currently a first-year biology master's student in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of California, San Diego. I work in the lab of Dr. Matthew Daugherty, where I study the evolutionary battle between viruses and the hosts that they infect. Specifically, my research focuses on how viral protease activity can be antagonized by host cells via inflammasome activation. My efforts towards this individual research project have fostered increased confidence in my ability as a researcher and proficiency in techniques relating to molecular biology such as cell culture maintenance, subcloning, PCR, plasmid isolation, bacterial transformation, and DNA gel electrophoresis, among others. The encouraging environment of the Daugherty Lab has allowed me to form meaningful connections with others, and has given rise to my increased passion for the field of science.As I prepare to conclude my academic endeavors later this year, I am looking to enter the workforce, and strive to work in the area of molecular biology, virology, or a related field. I hope that my experience as a researcher in multiple labs can prove useful for any company in the biological sciences industry who is looking to make a meaningful impact in this sector. I am excited to see what the future holds, and I can't wait to see where the next phase of my life takes me.
