About Xian C. Li
I am a physician scientist interested in the making, function, and regulation of the immune system. My initial training in microsurgery and tissue re-plantation got me interested in organ transplantation, and subsequently in transplant immunology. An overwhelming passion to understand how the immune system works in the setting of organ transplants and the possibility of induction of transplant tolerance brought me from China to Canada, and then to Harvard where I trained and worked with the best and the brightest in the field. Looking back it is gratifying that what started as simple experiments in the lab is now well recognized concepts in therapeutically modulating the immune system (for transplant survival), and looking forward I remain as inspired as ever before. I believe that the prospect of transplant tolerance, organ regeneration, and innovative new technologies will revolutionize medicine.
