About Xiaoling Chen

Xiaoling Chen is a Senior Researcher in Battery & System Architecture at GM R&D, where he focuses on the modeling and design of battery packs for electric vehicle (EV) propulsion at both the cell and system levels. His work also includes propulsion system thermal architecture design and the development of fast charging techniques for EV rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS). Prior to joining GM, Xiaoling was a Researcher at the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) at The Ohio State University. His research there covered smart home energy system management, battery aging modeling, and design of experiments to accelerate battery aging in laboratory testing. Xiaoling earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State, co-advised by Dr. Jacqueline O'Connor (Penn State) and Dr. Hosam Fathy (University of Maryland). His doctoral research explored the interdisciplinary field of thermoacoustic systems and control design. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Southeast University and a Master's degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, completed in 2012 and 2015 respectively. During this time, he conducted research in thermofluidic flow using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques.
