About Yagasena Appannah

I obtained my B.Eng (Hons) in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Upon graduation I worked as a Project Engineer in a European firm in Penang and then on to a multinational American firm, Fairchild Semiconductor in Penang as Senior Engineer in the Integrated Circuits Development section. I then left the industry to pursue my passion for research into satellite communications. I obtained my doctorate from USM in 2004 in the field of communications with my thesis titled ‘Satellite-to-Earth Signal Propagation Through Rain at Ku-Band in Malaysia’. I was one of the pioneer research members of USM satellite signal propagation team in collaboration with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Japan. I have done extensive research on the effects of rain on terrestrial and extra-terrestrial microwave signal propagation. My proposed rain attenuation model in tropical and equatorial regions to replace the existing ITU model is also actively being pursued by other researchers too in the field. My other area of interest includes sustainable energy, microwave antenna design and also the effect of microwave radiation on human health. I am currently pursuing my 2nd PhD in the field of renewable energy and energy audit management.
