About Yan Xu

With over 10 years of work experience, I am now a passionate and driven postdoctoral fellow at RUSH University Medical Center, where I am developing a novel small therapeutic peptide for treating albuminuria in kidney injury. My core competencies include cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics. I am motivated by the challenge of finding innovative solutions for complex biomedical problems, and I am committed to advancing personalized therapeutics for disease treatment. I bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the RUSH team, as I have worked and collaborated with researchers from different disciplines, institutions, and countries. In my current role, I use various techniques and tools to design and test the efficacy of the peptide in vitro and in vivo. I use surface plasmon resonance and cell adhesion assay to characterize the peptide and its interactions with the target receptor alphavbeta 3 integrin. I also use proteinuric mouse models to evaluate the peptide's in vivo efficacy and pharmacokinetics. I have successfully demonstrated the peptide's ability to reduce kidney damage and improve kidney function and albuminuria in proteinuric mice model. I have also given an oral presentation at ASN Kidney Week 2023. Moreover, I am currently in the process of submitting a paper detailing our exciting research discovery for peer review and publication.
