2012 January-June I trained at Katami Consulting Engineering for Practical (P1), where I got exposed to developing electrical drawings using software such as AutoCAD. As well doing general electrical installation and maintenance from Ring Main Units(RMU) to all the electrical equipment used in the hospitals, during this period I was assisting with standby duties as well. 2012 June-December I trained at Eskom Distribution Eskom at a Control Plant and Maintenance Department. At this stage I was exposed to various specialising fields such as Direct Current (DC) Systems, Telecontrol, Metering and mainly Protection.2013 March - 2020 September I worked at Eskom Distribution in the Test Department-Protection as an authorised Electrical Technician since March 2013. My responsibility was mainly on projects, maintenance, standby duties and doing fault investigations in Eskom (South African Main Power Utility) Substations on protection panels and apparatus, this included both control room and HV yard. I commission and carried out maintenance & testing a wide range of protection relays for different applications such as Power transformers, On-Load tap-changing relays, MV, HV and EHV Feeders, Bus Zone, Bus Coupler/Section, Capacitor Banks, Under-frequency etc. Testing Primary Plant, from Power Transformers ranging from about 5-80MVA. Testing different types of current transformers(CTs), voltage transformers(VTs) as well as testing cables. Doing function checking of all the Protection systems, controls, alarms going through to SCADA systems etc. Applying settings on a wide range of protection relays. Making markups on drawings, and keeping them updated as per the applicable standards and Procedures.I am registered with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a professional technician, I am in the registration process as a Professional Technologist. I also participate as an ECSA Assessor, helping ECSA with assessing new ECSA candidates in my registration category.2020 October - To Date I am at Eskom Transmission Division working at National Control Systems Support department, responsible for the provision, maintenance and management of a reliable real-time Energy Management System known as TEMSE. The TEMSE is used for controlling, monitoring, planning, and scheduling of the Interconnected Power System (IPS). The department provides a 24-hour technical support to the National Control that operates the power network using the TEMSE. The TEMSE system has to be available, functional and reliable at all times for efficient and reliable operation of IPS.
