About Yannick Somauroo

With over eight years of experience in various legal and administrative roles, I am a versatile and adaptable professional with a Master's degree in European Union Law and a strong interest in international and environmental law. I have developed a solid expertise in land law, especially in the complex and challenging context of Mayotte, where I currently work as a Legal Operations and Titling Manager at GIPL Commission d'Urgence Foncière (GIPL CUF), a public body that aims to secure and regulate land tenure in the island. In this role, I lead a team of 15 people in the legalization of land ownership, liaising with the judicial court of Mayotte and handling the transition from the customary law (cadial) to the common French law. I also manage a portfolio of several cases, coordinate and supervise the functional pole of the structure, and oversee the legal activity of the structure in view of a potential regularization. Additionally, I have previous experience in defending and representing the rights of foreigners and minors in Mayotte, as well as working in the government relations, banking, and transportation sectors. I am fluent in English, French, and Creole, and proficient in Microsoft Word, Sales, and Social Networking. I am passionate about diversity, human rights, and social justice, and I strive to contribute to the development and stability of Mayotte and the Indian Ocean region.
