About Yaron Altman

I am a fourth-generation Lower East Side resident influenced by the disasters and recoveries of Lower Manhattan and New York City in my lifetime. Motivated by these experiences, I am dedicated to mitigating hazards and enhancing resilience in vulnerable areas of NYC. For my Master's thesis, I conducted an analysis of the urban heat island effect in NYC, exploring correlations between temperature, building height, density, land cover, and open space. My findings underscore the importance of integrating green infrastructure and natural elements into urban planning to mitigate urban land cover-related hazards. Professionally, I bring extensive experience in urban planning, emergency operations, capital projects and infrastructure management within New York City government. Together with my expertise in managing large-scale datasets, performing geospatial analysis and developing and implementing asset management systems, I am eager to further enhance resilience and operational efficiency across NYC.
