About Yi Ju

Yi (David) Ju is the Head of the Nanomedicine and Gene Therapeutics Laboratory at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute, and a Senior Research Fellow and ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) Fellow at the School of Cancer Medicine, La Trobe University. His research focuses on fundamental bio–nano interactions, particularly the interplay between nanomaterials and the immune system, as well as translational efforts to develop innovative nanoparticle-based platforms for targeted drug and gene delivery. Dr Ju received his Ph.D. from The University of Melbourne in 2017 under the supervision of Frank Caruso. Following his Ph.D, he worked as a Research Fellow in the same group, exploring stealth nanomaterials for controlled bio–nano interactions. From 2017 to 2021, he served as Co-Leader of the Signature Project 'Mediating Protein Interactions' within the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence in Convergent Bio–Nano Science and Technology (CBNS). In 2021, he joined RMIT University as a Vice-Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow and was awarded the Victoria Fellowship by the Victorian State Government. In 2022, he received an ARC DECRA Fellowship to investigate nanomaterial–immune system interactions. He was a visiting researcher at the Nanomedicine Lab, University of Manchester, from January to September 2023. Since 2021, he has been an Honorary Fellow in both the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Department of Chemical Engineering at The University of Melbourne. He is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Materials Science (Springer Nature) and serves as a Committee Member for the Victorian Branch of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI).
