Background
About Yipeng Wang
It’s not about how fast you draw—it’s about how well you aim.” – Open Range one of my favorite modern western movies Much like a marksman who values precision over speed, I believe the true power of data lies in its thoughtful application. Data tells stories, but in a world flooded with information, the real challenge—and my passion in data science—is to cut through the noise and extract insights that drive meaningful impact. I specialize in transforming complex data into actionable insights through descriptive and predictive analytics. In my previous job, I played a key analytical role in a large-scale data migration project, collaborated with functional and technical teams to facilitate critical stages of the migration workflow. This experience taught me that numbers and metrics are the common language across all teams, and their presentation is essential in driving successful collaborative outcomes. Motivated by this lesson, I started my master's in data science at Columbia Engineering this fall with the goal of deepening my technical expertise and enhancing my ability to deliver robust data solutions. I thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments, quickly acquiring domain knowledge and tackling challenges with a focus on value creation. In my past experience, I’ve developed expertise including Oracle, ERP and LLMs to meet a broad spectrum of job requirements. My greatest strength is my ability to recognize gaps in my skillset and take proactive, resourceful steps to close them efficiently. Building on this mindset, I have continually expanded my technical toolkit to support my goal of pursuing a career in data science. My programming skillset now includes SQL, Python, C++, and R, as well as techniques like A/B testing, Bayesian machine learning, and data visualization. Beyond coding, I’m adept at orchestrating workflows with Airflow, managing database systems like PostgreSQL, and deploying scalable applications on AWS and Azure. With established expertise across these tools and platforms, I strive to meet the expectations of a data scientist in today’s competitive landscape. For Summer 2026, I am seeking a data scientist internship, where I can create business value while expanding my industry experience. I am eager to learn, tackle business challenges, and grow as a professional through hands-on experience and mentorship. If you share my passion for leveraging data to create meaningful impact, I warmly invite you to reach out for a conversation. Let’s connect and explore how we can work together to drive positive change.
