About Yiru Wang

I am currently a Ph.D. student in Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (starting Fall 2025). My research interests primarily focus on organization design and entrepreneurship, with an additional interest in labor market-related topics. My academic journey began at the Rotman Commerce program at the University of Toronto, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Management. Following graduation, I joined an edu-tech startup as a founding team member, where I led digital marketing initiatives. In this role, I managed social media content, conducted interviews and journalistic writing, and published articles on global and social issues—some of which were featured in mainstream media. Through active involvement in the startup’s strategic decision-making—including recruitment, funding, business unit mergers, legal affairs, and public relations—I gained hands-on insight into how startups create and deliver value. I later pursued a Master’s in Management at London Business School, where I also worked as a research assistant in the Strategy and Entrepreneurship Department. Additionally, internships at Alibaba, PwC Consulting, and NetEase in a range of functions have broadened my perspective. With a background that spans finance, marketing, journalism, and entrepreneurship, my academic and professional experiences have shaped a growing interest in understanding why and how organizations perform differently.
