About Yolanda Smith

Ms. Smith has been an attorney for Alameda County since beginning as a Deputy District Attorney in the Family Support Division of the District Attorney's Office and currently as a Child Support Attorney with the Department of Child Support Services. The Alameda County Department of Child Support Services provides assistance to families through the establishment of parentage, the establishment of a child support order for monetary and medical support, and through the enforcement of those orders. In addition to managing a very active caseload, which includes appearing in court and reviewing and preparing legal documents, Ms. Smith also represented the Department on the Child Support Director's Legislative Committee. In this role she was responsible for reviewing legislation that impacted the Child Support Program. She was also the Department's representative for GARE, Government Alliance on Race and Equity, which is a national network of government working to achieve racial equity and advance opportunity for all. Her participation required attending a series of trainings which prepared her to lead trainings for management and staff on how racial inequity impacts the families of Alameda County that they serve. Ms. Smith has also shown a commitment to improving the lives of children and families by volunteering with various non-profit agencies in her community, such as Lend a Hand Foundation, Family Violence Law Center, Black Adoption Placement and Research Center, Second Start Adult Literacy Program and Beyond Emancipation.
