About Youngjun Kim
I am a professor (tenured) of International Politics at Korea National Defense University (KNDU). I have been an official member of National Security Advisory Board of the Republic of Korea (ROK) President's Office (The Blue House) and a member of Central Committee of the Presidential Unification Advisory Board. I am an International Senior Research Fellow of the Foreign Military Studies Office (FMSO) of the US Army and a member of ROK-US Combined Forces Commander Strategic Shaping Board (CSSB). My monthly column on Korean Security issues has been published in FMSO's monthly journal - Operational Environment Watch. The Routledge Press published my book "Origins of the North Korean Garrison State: The People's Army and the Korean War" in its Cold War History series in 2017. The information for the book at Routledge is My job includes not only teaching and research at KNDU but also a policy advice for foreign and defense policy making process, including the Republic of Korea National Assembly, National Security Council, National Intelligence Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense, the Joint Chief of Staff as well as the US State Department and the US Senate/Congress. My students include senior leaders and middle managers of the armed forces, department of Defense, department of foreign affairs, diverse government organizations, intelligence agency agencies and major industries. As a managing editor, I have published the Korean Journal on Nuclear Nonproliferation and Energy sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
