About Yuanjiang Sun

Yuanjiang SUN is currently the Manager for Partnership and Regional Cooperation.Before joining AIIB, Mr. Sun worked as the Deputy Director-General of Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) since the year of 2010 in charge of regional integration and cooperation. Since 2012, he had been appointed as China’s Chief Negotiator leading a series of most important Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations including China-Korea FTA, China-Japan-Korea FTA, Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RECP), China-Iceland FTA, China-Norway FTA, China-ASEAN Upgrade FTA, China-New Zealand Upgrade FTA, China-Singapore Upgrade FTA. He was among the first appointed members as mainland representative of the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Committee and participated in the follow-up negotiations of the Framework Agreement. Earlier in his career, Mr. Sun also served as Director and Advisor for the negotiation of OECD Steel Subsidies Agreement, Transit Traffic Agreement (TTA) between China, Mongolia and the Russian Federation, International Natural Rubber Agreement (INRA), etc. He has also taken the lead in negotiating the legal transition of GTI from a sub-regional mechanism under the auspices of United Nations to an independent governmental organization. In 2011, he was appointed as China’s Coordinator for the Development Working Group (DWG) of G20.Mr. Sun spent most of his career dealing with regional cooperation. In 1994, Mr. Sun was selected as Young Leader for APEC Next Generation and was seconded to work as a Program Director in APEC Secretariat based in Singapore in 1996. Upon returning to China, he was appointed as China’s APEC Trade Representative and subsequently as APEC Senior Official for Trade. From 2003-2008, Mr. Sun had played a leading role in initiating and establishing the GMS (Greater Mekong Sub-region) Economic Corridor Forum, CAREC (Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation) Business Development Forum, and ASEM (Asia and Europe Economic Meeting) Investment Promotion Center for the purpose of promoting regional cooperation and integration.
