About Yusuke Katsurada

Senior staff gemologist (colored stone research) at Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Belonging to GIA’s Tokyo Laboratory. PhD in environmental studies basing on geoscience (Nagoya Univ.). Worked for some projects of geoenvironment, mineral resource exploration, Geographical Information System (GIS), remote sensing, archaeology, museum education etc. Teaching experiences at some universities in Japan, Kenya and Mongolia. Changed the speciality to gemology from 2013. Graduate Gemologist (GIA G.G.), Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (FGA). Pearl Graduate and Applied Jewelry Professional of GIA. Constantly giving many gemology-related public seminars in Tokyo, Osaka, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Taipei, USA and online, and published several gemology-related articles and academic papers in English and Japanese in the past decade. Also, periodically giving talent development and corporate training lectures to several maison brands and high jewelers. Besides the gemological career, serving as a president (from January 2024) at the Japanese Vexillological Association (JAVA) and an editor-in-chief of their journal “Vexillology”. Also a self-taught artist (painter). Selected to several public contests, had 6 solo shows, joined some international art fairs (Spain, Japan, UAE and Switzerland).
