About Yuxuan Wang

Hi there and thanks for stumbling across my page. My name is Yuxuan and I’m a graduate of UBC’s Sauder School of Business with specializations in both Finance and Operations and Logistics (OgLog). I have over three years of experience working in capital markets, where I process pooled fund trades for our private client segment at CC & L and ensure smooth trading operations for the retail side of the business. If you can spare a few moments, I’d love to share with you what led me to pursue these two contrasting areas of study and why they are also very complimentary at the same time. In my first year of university, I came across a movie called “The Big Short”. Even with the excellent performances and clever use of cameos to explain things in layman’s terms, I still had so many questions. Naturally, my curiosity got the better of me and to satisfy my need to understand, I took to the internet. I came across concepts that were difficult to understand at first but gradually became more clear as I linked those concepts to my schoolwork. Even with the occasional turbulence, I discovered there was a beautiful organization to the financial world and I became enamoured with the mathematical elegance of its underlying theories. My step into operations and logistics stems from my personal belief in not being wasteful, whether that be in the form of optimizing tangible resources or time. In pursuing a second specialization in OpLog, I was able to learn how I could apply those same optimization principles towards a company’s financial performance and environmental stewardship. I realized over time that there were a lot of areas where finance and OpLog overlapped. In instances where a purely financial perspective might’ve suggested cost-cutting materials at the expense of customer loyalty, OpLog could find areas of improvement where companies could improve upon multiple metrics all at once without damaging one metric over the other. Being an environmentally conscious individual, my interests in OpLog currently lie in bridging the gap between environmental sustainability and corporate cost-savings. This has a been a quick snapshot of my commerce journey and my passions to date.
