About Z. Jason Ren

Prof. Z. Jason Ren is a professor in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Princeton University, and he served as the associate director and acting director for the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment. He is also the co-founder, chief scientist, and director at Princeton Critical Minerals (PureLi Inc.). Prof. Ren leads the Princeton Water & Energy Technologies (WET) Lab with research focusing on water sector resource recovery, decarbonization and digitalization. His group uses electrochemistry, microbiology, and data science tools to gain insights into the fundamental determining factors, and they develop models and technologies for resource recovery during environmental and chemical processes. Prof. Ren has received numerous recognitions including the Walter J. Weber, Jr. AEESP Frontier in Research Award from AEESP (2024), the Paul L. Busch Award from WRF (2021), the Walter L. Huber Research Prize from ASCE (2020), and the Nanova/CAPEES Frontier in Research Award (2017). He is a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry and International Water Association. He is an Associate Editor for Environmental Science & Technology (ES & T) and ES & T Letters. Prof. Ren has published 3 book and book chapters,>250 peer reviewed articles, and 8 granted or pending patents.
