Background
About Zach Toombs
I'm the executive director and founder of Evident, a nonprofit news organization producing documentary journalism for the public good. We put crews on the ground to cover current events with in-depth reporting and cinematic production. Before Evident, I created and led Scripps News' Emmy-winning Longform team. Our projects included the correspondent-driven "In Real Life" series, a visual investigations partnership with Bellingcat, and a series about the real-world impacts of video games, Next Level. I managed a team of 15 staff team members and worked with dozens of freelance journalists across more than 100 projects and productions spanning 20 countries. Our team’s projects gained industry recognition from the News & Documentary Emmys, the Edward R. Murrow Awards, ONA, SEJ, and SPJ. I've personally reported on political campaigns, artificial intelligence, and climate disasters across 4 continents.
