About Zachary Corcoran

Mechanical Engineering major at the University of Notre Dame. From an early age, I've always had a passion for wanting to learn more, to get a better understanding of how something works. Seeing how an object moved and figuring out what caused the movement was always the most fascinating to me. In my head it felt like a puzzle just waiting to be solved and I couldn't resist thinking about it until I had the answer. It was this curiosity that led me to study mechanical engineering. As a dual degree engineering student, I got the best of both worlds. A well rounded liberal arts education at Stonehill College and a deep technical understanding of the principles and practices of mechanical engineering at the University of Notre Dame. My time at Stonehill gave me the fortune of exploring a wide variety of disciplines while providing me a strong foundation in calculus, physics, mechanics, and computer science; all while staying close to family and home. Since I've been at Notre Dame, I've been exposed to the wide variety of disciplines in the field of mechanical engineering such as fluid mechanics, heat transfer, differential equations, and design of machine elements to name a few. I've developed skills with 3D modeling software, 3D printing, design processes, CNC machining, and a variety of coding languages. The transition To Notre Dame was not easy to say the least. It was tough to say goodbye to family and friends and travel halfway across the country to continue my education. Through it all I remained excited, not knowing what lied ahead for me was intriguing. It was another opportunity to learn and grow and I was ready to take that next step. I've taken the transition to Notre Dame in stride and am glad I took the leap into unfamiliar territory. As my time at Notre Dame comes to an end, I'm more excited than ever to take that leap again.
