About Zachary Obrien

Ever since I was young, I have always been interested in various sciences as well as building things. These two factors guided me to have a passion for renewable energy due to the meaningful impact it could have on our society and environment. Naturally, this led me to have an interest in electric cars and transportation in general. I would follow developments in these two sectors and would finally sit in my first electric car, a Tesla Model S, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. I was overwhelmed at the technology this car possessed and knew I wanted to be a part of this connected vehicle revolution. I decided that a degree in engineering would allow me to make a difference in the industries that I’ve grown to have deep enthusiasm for.I decided to pursue a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering at Saginaw Valley State University. While attending, I was able to take advantage of the many resources that were at my disposal. I was able to study circuit calculation and design, motors, power systems, and computer function and design which created a core understanding of the electrical engineering field. All this core knowledge matured my understanding of the discipline and led me to obtain a Co-op position at an engineering firm. Through my experiences as a Co-Op, I learned to work in a fast-paced environment among multiple engineering disciplines. I was required to meet vigorous deadlines and produce quality work. Even though electrical engineering will be a lifelong of learning new things, I am confident that my core understanding has bolstered my ability to pursue a career that I am passionate about.Design Applications: Matlab/Simulink, CANape, CANalyzerLanguages: C, C++
