About Zack Kane

I worked in industrial demolition for 8 years in Edmonton, 3 of those years I was promoted to a site superintendent. During this time I gained a wealth of experience in creating job safety analyses, conducting incident investigations, and coaching employees with respect to implemented safety procedures. I also completed my certificate as a National Construction Safety Officer. I became increasingly interested in the Health and Safety aspects of this job and this led me to pursue my certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of New Brunswick. I then fininshed my diploma in Safety, Health and Environmental management, I am jow pursuing my Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation. In May of 2016, my family grew with the birth of my daughter, my wife and I made the decision to move back to Southern Ontario where we were born. I was given an opportunity to take a contract position at Maple Leaf Foods Prepared Meats in August 2016 as the Health and Safety Supervisor. This contract expired at the end of March 2017. In this position, I was been responsible for overseeing the general well-being of all plant employees, new worker orientation, managing WSIB claims, and leading Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, and creating Health and Safety programs. I have gained an appreciation for the relationship between food safety and health and safety in a manufacturing setting. In April 2017, Maple Leaf Foods Poultry hired me on permanent full-time as an HSSE Manager. 2018 I moved to an opportunity with Lowe's Canada as the Health and Safety specialist of Distribution helping build a great safety culture and renewing the incident reporting by making it digital was the help of a great programmer. In 2020, there was alot of uncertainty with some family health issues, so I moved to Reliance Home Comfort to be closer to home but also to get back to Health and Safety in the trades world. It has been quite a journey so far and I am so glad to all the people I have met along the way. Working in the field of health and safety, it is my personal goal for all employees to be able to work in an environment where health and safety is everyone’s priority. I have an open-door policy and encourage workers to speak with me about issues, concerns, or suggestions pertaining to the facility’s safety program. I believe that coaching is the most important tool for employees knowledge to prevent future incidents.
