About Zae Munn

June 2025 update: I am now living in the SW corner of Skokie, IL following my retirement from Saint Mary's College. I am looking forward to meeting up with Chicago area musicians, going to concerts, and exploring the multitude of places and activities in my new locale. I will be happy to share some of my many compositions, but only if asked. I have especially treasured my music/dance collaborations over the past few years. The Summer Composition Intensive will happen one more time at Saint Mary's College (July 14-26) and then we will be looking for a new host institution. Perhaps there is a Chicago area college that would be the right fit and I'm happy to discuss. Will I teach again? Perhaps, but not full time and only if the subject interests me. I will primarily be thinking of myself as a Chicago-area composer and not a theory I've taught at Saint Mary's College in South Bend, IN since 1990. My core teaching responsibilities include the four-semester theory sequence, digital media in music, and orchestration/arranging. I also teach a non-major course called Creating Music and a major requirement called Chamber Music Experience. For the past 12 summers, I have directed the Summer Composition Intensive at Saint Mary's College, an advanced two-week program for adult composers, 18 and beyond. In past academic posts, in addition to teaching theory-related courses, I conducted orchestra, taught conducting, and even taught cello and bass students. I have an ongoing creative collaboration with my dance colleague which draws student dancers and musicians from our departments into the process of creating new music and choreography. In the fall of 2025, I will relocate to the Chicago, Illinois area and will be open to interesting parttime/adjunct teaching in the area.
