About Zara Smith

I am a scientific researcher with over 9 years of experience. My background is mainly in biology, having worked in multiple different areas throughout my career; fabrication, development and validation of nano- DMDs, primary cells/stem cells/cell lines/cultured tissue explants cultured in 2D and 3D, 3D biomaterial production, nanoparticle and liposome synthesis and growth factor delivery, and calcium channel spectrofluorimetry. I have experience in fabrication techniques (electrospinning, microfluidics) and characterisation (UV-VIS, DLS, SEM) of biomaterials. I also have experience with dynamic cell bioreactor systems. I have worked extensively on cell characterisation, using fluorescent imaging (high content imaging/multiphoton confocal systems), flow cytometry, IHC, ICC/IF, cell assays (metabolic activity, DNA/enzyme release quantification, etc.), and RT-PCR. I have performed protein analysis and charactersation via western blots and ELISAs (both troubleshooting and development) and commercial assays. I have cell culture experience with both stem cells and primary cells (human and other mammal), as well as cell lines, and have established in vitro cultures from tissue. I would describe myself as a driven and determined individual who thrives in an intellectual environment, especially one where I am challenged.
