Brewing is science, brewing is art. To learn the science I bowed down to Germans. Putting aside my degrees and previous experiences, I started with the brewing trade school in Karlstadt, Germany, had apprenticeship in two local breweries, both of them over 100 years old, yet modern. I graduated with Sehr gut (very good) scores. Nonstop, I went further to pursue production management, brewmaster and malting master diplomas at Doemens Fachakademie in Munich Germany. With hard studying and many privileged opportunities given by the president of the school, I graduated very successfully in 1996. To be artistic as a German brewmaster, Reinheitsgebot can be a limitation. With the freedom we enjoy in North America and elsewhere in the world, just imagine what we can do with a wider range of legal, safe and good ingredients! It is called the craft beer revolution. However, we should never forget the basic principles. As Big Rock's founder, Mr. Ed. McNally said "To make a masterpiece, no compromise can be tolerated." Big Rock's becoming a clear leader of the craft brewing industry is in no way by chance.After 20+ years of brewery experience in both production and QA positions at small and big breweries across three continents I am now well balanced.
