About Zhonghui Wan

Dr. Zhonghui Wan was the SVP for CMC at Nanjing TransThera Biosciences Co, Ltd during the beginning of 2018 to the end of 2020. At TransThera, Dr. Wan led the CMC team and delivered the following achievements: 1. the success of 4+ IND filings to both FDA and CFDA; 2. the design and development of a commercial process for the potential new drug TT-00420; 3. the invention of TT-01025, the delivery of both API and drug product for phase I studies, contributed greatly for the eventual licensing out of TT-01025 to LG Chem for $350M in late 2020. Dr. Wan was the Director of process chemistry at Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine from 2009 to 2014. Dr. Wan built up a group about 60 people and managed the process design and development effort of generics as well as new drug candidates at Hengrui. One of his achievements is the development of an efficient synthetic process of Fondaparinux sodium and the realization of its production on kilogram scale. Dr. Wan worked shortly as associate director of process chemistry at Asymchem laboratory, which does contract research and manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and intermediates for drug synthesis. With this experience, Dr. Wan got familiar with the contract research and manufacture organizations (CROs/CMOs) in China. Dr. Wan started his career in process chemistry at Eli Lilly & Company as senior research scientist, where he became a process chemist. He was assigned to stay in Shanghai to manage Lilly's contract research and manufacture activities in China, where he built up very effective working relationship with CROs in China in 2007. Dr. Wan also helped Lilly's legal team to win several patent-defending cases in China as witness expert. With this experience, he learnt the importance of understanding chemistry details in combination with legal terms in the litigation of intellectual property protection. Dr. Wan received his PhD from University of Pittsburgh in organic chemistry in 2001.
