Background
About Zoe Berg
I am an engineer, photographer, product designer, and artist, studying mechanical engineering in my senior year at Yale University. I am a highly visual person who is constantly aiming to develop and explore new intersections between media, art, technology, entertainment, and the human experience. I have been doing CAD for over 9 years (SolidWorks, Creo Parametric, and NX) and I love working in product design. In addition to this, I have done seven different internships in fields related to engineering, CAD, and media. Some of my highlights include: spending 5.5 months as an intern at Apple on the Product Design Architecture and Kinematics team, a summer internship at Samsung on the Think Tank Team as a product design mechanical engineer, a summer at Radio Flyer where I worked on designing new products to inspire active play, and part-time work at a nonprofit called Rise of the Butterfly, which raises awareness and funds to help human trafficking survivors. Outside of work, I am engaged in a variety of different activities. My passion for photography manifests itself through my work as a former photo editor at the Yale Daily News; engineering and entertainment are merged through my work on the Yale Dramatic Association set crew; and I take lead in community projects and leadership as the former director of production on Cadence of Yale A Cappella and as a past member of the Pierson College Council. During my senior year, I am a First Year Counselor, where I work on a team to provide guidance, advice, and am responsible for the well-being of the Pierson class of 2027. Prior to college, I graduated summa cum laude with my STEM diploma and National Honors society cords in 2019 from Lakeville South High School. I also engaged in hands-on work experience through four summer internships at EAC, BTD Manufacturing, and Stellar Hearth Products. These internships allowed me to engage in computer engineering, CAD, product design, and manufacturing engineering through project based initiatives, robotic automation, and assessment and implementation of solutions to commonly faced production problems. One of the highlights of this time was also the nine years I spent on the Green Girls FIRST robotics team. On the team, I was the lead builder and designer, responsible for virtual testing, creation of custom parts through additive and subtractive manufacturing, assembly, rapid prototyping, documentation, and engagement with the community through STEM classes, advocacy, and outreach events.
