Background

About Zoltan Toth

After spending ten years working in corporate communications and fundraising with various Canadian NGOs, I fell into my first teaching job with no training or experience but a lot of enthusiasm. What was meant to be a brief interlude between NGO contracts turned out to be the start of a new career path that has taken me to places and allowed me to combine my passion (I know, there's that cliche.) for languages, my curiosity about other cultures, and general appreciation of learning and keeping one's brain actively engaged. I have nearly two decades of experience working with students from a variety of cultures and countries; I have taught in Canada, Spain, Hungary and the UK. I have taught both uni-and multi-lingual classes, from young learners through university students to adults. For the past ten years I have been working as an EAP instructor in the International Foundation Program (IFP) at the University of Toronto during the September-April academic year. Most recently, I have joined British Council's team of freelance online teachers working on BC's flagship English Online program. This provides an interetsing contrast ( in focus, in student make-up, in delivery method, in the daily challanges of lesson planning and class management - so pretty much in all aspects) to teaching EAP to a primarily mono-lingual group of students on campus; it helps to keep things professionally challenging and also to inject new ideas into my university teaching.
