Mr Zulkanain is a seasoned banking and payments professional with more than 34 years of experience in both domestic & multinational financial institutions and a qualified Chartered Banker. Recognized as a transformational leader with broad experience in Islamic and conventional banking in technology, digital, payments and operations. Recipient of Leadership Award by CEPI Asia in modernizing Malaysia's payment infrastructure, recipient of Transformation Corporate Leader Brand ICON Leadership Award, IT Leaders Award 2023 by APAC CIO Outlook and Payment Transformers Excellent Awards 2024.Mr Zulkanain joined Bank Rakyat Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia (BKRM) as Chief Information Technology Officer since 12 Jan 2026 until present.Mr Zulkanain was also servicing AmBank Group as EVP/Head of Group IT from 1 Oct 2020 until 31 Dec 2025 and prior to that in Affin Bank as Chief Operating Officer from 1 Oct 2016 until 30 Sep 2020. During this period, he overseeing strategic, transformation and operations of IT, Digital Banking, Banking Operations, Payments, Property & Logistic, Enterprise Process & Procedure and Customer Experience.Prior to Affin Bank, Mr Zulkanain Kassim is a leading, recognized figure in the Malaysian and regional payment industry. He is the Group Managing Director of Malaysian Electronic Payment System Sdn Bhd (MEPS) since 2011 to 2016. He is also a sought-after speaker and strong advocator of e-payment reforms in the financial services landscape. Having a proven track record of success and a vast experience, Mr Zulkanain possesses the calibre to advance MEPS and the industry to the next level. In addition, Mr Zulkanain won the coveted 2015 "CEPI Asia Leadership Award – Individual" at The Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore and was conferred the BrandLaureate Icon Leadership "Transformational Corporate Leader Brand Icon Leadership" Award 2015 at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur.His accomplishments to date include introducing Malaysia’s first non-bank White Label MEPS ATMs, Malaysian Chip Card Standard and establishing a modern cash management service under MEPS Currency. At the industry level, Mr Zulkanain has also presented at payment forums, both locally and regionally. His leadership has also earned MEPS the Top Ten Favourite Brands by SUPERBRANDS Malaysia, Malaysia Book of Records as first IT Company to be certified from Islamic perspective. MEPS has also been awarded with “Best Peer-to-Peer Payments Initiative” – Highly Commended at Cards and Electronic Payments International (CEPI) Asia Awards 2015.
