MiRO bewegt und wärmt mit „raffinierten“ Produkten. Statistisch gesehen kommt jeder 3. Liter Benzin an deutschen Zapfsäulen aus Karlsruhe – aus Deutschlands größter Raffinerie. Die 1.100 Mitarbeiter der Mineraloelraffinerie Oberrhein (MiRO) veredeln das Rohöl der vier Gesellschafter zu Mineralölprodukten wie Benzin, Diesel, Heizöl, Bitumen und Einsatzstoffe für die chemische Industrie. 14 Millionen Tonnen Rohöl werden pro Jahr verarbeitet – 500 Liter jede Sekunde. MiRO deckt den Kraftstoff- und Heizölbedarf von rund 10 Millionen Verbrauchern und ist damit im Südwesten die wichtigste Quelle für Energie aus Mineralöl. Außerdem speist die Raffinerie Prozessabwärme in das Fernwärmenetz der Stadt und sorgt so für wohlige Wärme in tausenden Haushalten. Die MiRO versteht sich als Partner der Energiewende. Mit Projekten wie der Fernwärme leistet die Raffinerie bereits heute einen aktiven Beitrag zur Erreichung der Klimaziele.
