Action For Ocean

ACTION FOR OCEAN Action for Ocean (AFO) is a youth-led Tanzanian non-profit dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems while strengthening the resilience of coastal communities. Founded in 2016, AFO blends science, innovation, and indigenous knowledge to restore critical habitats, promote sustainable fisheries, and expand ocean-based livelihoods. The organization has restored over 70 hectares of marine habitat, engaged community members, and established Marine Managed Areas through participatory governance. With flagship initiatives like the Africa Fair Seaweed Finance Facility(AFSFF) and Community-led models including Coastal Livelihood Entreprenuership for Adaptation and Resilience (CLEAR) Model and the MATUMBAWE HAI Model, AFO is shaping a future where healthy oceans support thriving communities across East Africa.
