My professor in Contract Law used to say:"just like people put an engine in their car, they should put a Lawyer in their contracts". To that, I would like to add. and a Mediator in their conflicts. Mediation is an alternative method of conflict resolution that is very effective. The advantages of mediation are many. The most important are that : the parties decide on the solution that suits them best without leaving the decision in the hands of a third party, the duration of the process is often short, the costs remain relatively moderate, the Mediator has a neutral, independent and impartial role, the parties can of course be assisted by advisers or lawyers, and the confidentiality of the process is provided by Law. Mediation is thus a particularly secure ADR method. Its effectiveness in resolving professional disputes explains the increased popularity of Mediation in the business world. I draw upon my broad experience as a corporate lawyer and strategy advisor when I mediate. My style is straightforward, direct and, if confronting at times, my interventions are fair and valuable. I follow the rules of conduct and the guidelines of the MfN (the Dutch Federation for Mediators). Working sessions usually take place in presence but virtual Mediation sessions are an option. I work in French, Italian, English and Dutch.
