Aqua-Aero Watersystems

Aqua-Aero WaterSystems (AAWS) is a social enterprise focusing on delivering innovative solutions for water purification, rainwater harvesting and water storage. Projects are delivered within the Netherlands and around the world, We developed special foil sheet structures to simply capture large volumes (15-500 m3) of rainwater. To purify this rainwater for human consumption, our UV WaterBox is used. The UV WaterBox is powered using solar energy, the UV-light kills bacteria and viruses and the system is simple to operate and maintain. In the field of sanitation we are preventing latrines from percolating human waste material into the groundwater. For that we are using so called 'Latrine Bags'. We also deliver foil sheet septic tanks which can be transported easily and use only a minimum of building materials for installation. To solve the problem of (human) waste streams piling up, we strongly advocate sustainable compost farming: high value compost is produced out of human waste and market/organic waste. The compost is produced on a financial sustainable basis to directly support food security and proper sanitation. In 2006 AAWS obtained the World Bank Development Market Place Award for the development of the WaterPyramid.
