ATMonitor is a service designed to offer buy-side traders a unique, valuable and independent resource in the field of global equity trading and technology. In recent years there have been dramatic and fundamental changes in the job of institutional buy-side traders. Market regulation has been a catalyst for growing fragmentation of liquidity in major North American and European equity markets. A host of successful new trading venues with different rules, operating processes and technology have been established. Brokers have built a broad array of technology driven tools to support and enhance trading in this new environment, including suites of algorithms and smart order routing systems. EMS and OMS vendors have adapted their technology to help clients exploit the new opportunities with the minimum of business interruption, whilst independent technology and market data suppliers have also established themselves as solutions providers. In the meantime new research focused boutiques and the advent of commission sharing agreements have changed the face of the commission allocation process. Increasingly execution is separated from research provision. Finally the events of 2008 saw major investment banks get swallowed into larger institutions or simply disappear.
