Barnswallows (087-138 NPO, PBO 930037045), opened in November 2009, in the home of its Directors, René Testa & Monique du Plessis. It has provided a temporary Place of Safety for 47 babies to date. Since opening its doors, we have expanded by launching a satellite Baby Shelter, Swallows Nest, in 2014 & later launching a Special Needs Education & Development Facility, Swift Academy, in 2015 Swallows Nest We are passionate about caring for & rehabilitating abused & abandoned babies. Their immediate needs are not only to be fed, clothed & cared for, but to be loved, cherished & gently guided into a positive, hopeful future where they can contribute significantly to their own communities & society as a whole. We are helping to put a stop to the cycle of abandonment & neglect in these children’s lives, by loving & protecting every child that enters our doors – & by giving these precious children a strong moral foundation which will serve them into their adult years. Above & beyond care-giving, our particular strength is our work with infants with special needs, like; premature babies, children born with fetal alcohol syndrome, cerebral palsy, HIV or any developmental delays. With our team of volunteer specialists we address these developmental setbacks through strict nutrition & stimulation in all areas of their lives. We aim to give the best care we can. Swift Academy The Swift Academy, provides specialized education, therapy & care in a loving environment for children with special needs. Due to the overwhelming need for quality education for children with delays brought about by F.A.S, Down Syndrome, malnourishment, HIV & autism spectrum disorders, Swift Academy provides therapeutic interventions for children usually not catered for in mainstream schooling as well by providing this care at lower rates for those who are not in the financial position to afford high fees. We aim to make a positive impact on the children of the South African Nation.
