Bodegas Bhilar is a boutique winery in Elvillar, Rioja Alavesa, run by husband and wife team, David Sampedro and Melanie Hickman. With 17 hectares of estate-grown vines, all of which are certified organic and biodynamic by Demeter International, Bodegas Bhilar is entirely solar and wind-powered, and the land is farmed exclusively by plowhorse. Recognized by many international publications, they have been included in Meininger’s “Top 100 Wineries in the World”, featured as one of “Six Producers Leading the Way in Rioja” (Wine Spectator), listed as among the “Top 10 Producers in Rioja” (Decanter), and awarded “Grower of the Year” (Tim Atkin MW, Rioja Report).
