Bourbons Street

For the past 29 years Bourbon Street has often been rated to be the most popular student venue in South Africa by various radio stations & magazines. Open from Mondays to Saturdays the party literally kicks into gear every single night of the week with students from the nearby varsity celebrating youth and there virtually carefree years by enjoying two stories of dancing, live entertainment, pool tables & all sorts of promotions. Their nearly world famous Gummy berry, made at the company's nearby distillery, is legendary and an all-time favorite as this delicious drink is consumed by all students, locals and tourists in massive volumes every single night of the week. Students firmly believe that it's "the stuff that gets you bouncing". For many a year Bourbon Street offered a post graduate MBA (Master at Beer Appreciation). A significant percentage of students attending Bourbon Street these days are in fact the direct result of their parents having met in Bourbon Street when they themselves attended the very same university during the late eighties, early nineties. It's often perceived by those parents as a nostalgic journey back to their roots, reliving the best days of their lives through their own children. Bourbon Street has on many an occasion been declare publicly to be the main road of Potchefstroom. With the annual Aardklop National Arts festival directly on their doorstep, an incredible 20 people would flow through the doors on a daily basis. Any major special event held in Potch can be deemed successful only if the opportunity was taken to spend at least one night in Bourbon Street. Every single musician, band or comedian worth mentioning have at some stage or another in his or her career performed at Bourbon Street. Dancing as a measure of entertainment is enjoyed within the student ranks, therefore one would also find the coolest DJs showing off their stuff at Bourbon Street.
